After sustaining a rather severe knee injury slipping on the ice, I sought to take more care in my choice of footwear, including obtaining over-the-sole cleats. As I already have tungsten carbide studded bicycle tires, I was appreciative of the technology. Chicago often has rapid temperature changes, leading to freezing over of sidewalks and streets, which makes a simple walk a dangerous endeavor. Running across the an icy street one day in February, I slipped on the ice and, in an attempt to maintain my balance, over-exerted my left quadriceps tearing the muscle right off the kneecap. When I arrived at the emergency room, I found that it was filled with patients who had fallen on the ice.

I had been researching over-the-sole cleats online for some time when I stumbled across the Get-A-Grip ice cleats in Walgreens. It was right around the time Chicago had a thaw and freeze over. It was a worthwhile purchase that provided immediate benefits. They dramatically increase traction on ice, are simple to use and are relatively lightweight. I wish I knew about them a year ago as I would have a avoided a painful injury and thousands of dollars in medical bills.

The Grip-A-Grip cleats are nice but not perfect. The rubber lattice structure holds them on the bottom of the sole fairly well but they can fall off. It would be nice to have an over-the-top strap that holds them more securely. Also, the plastic grommets holding the tungsten studs can break in extreme circumstances. I shattered two of them stomping on a ceramic tile to test the potential damage to finished floors. Suffice it to say, the tile cracked as well. The second pair of Get-A-Grip cleats I purchased came with two spare individual cleats so the company understands they are not indestructible.

More people should be aware of this type of product. I am glad that mainstream stores such as Walgreens now sell the Get-A-Grip cleats as many would benefit from wearing them when treacherous icy streets lead to injuries.

My wife bought me a pair for Christmas this past year. While I was packing for a trip recently, I placed these on a very expensive wood dresser. Upon our return 6 days later, I picked them up off the dresser and was astonished to see a perfect imprint of the whole traction device in the dresser. Nothing was set on top of them, they were not in direct sunlight, they were simply laying on the dresser. Somehow, the rubber had a reaction with the finish on the dresser and the stain/imprint is now permanent!

I immediately contacted the company and sent them some photos of the damage. Much to my amazement, here's their response:

I have been forwarded an email with explanation from our sales department. While I understand that your wife may be upset over the dresser, Sure Foot Corporation cannot assist you or pay you money (if that is your reason for calling) for placing Get A Grips on the dresser and leaving them there for a period of days. The intended use of the Get A Grip is that it be placed on the a shoe, after determining the type of Get A Grip which should be placed on the particular shoe and making sure sizing is correct) and that it be used as an aid in traction in walking on flat surfaces which may have less than optimal conditions due to ice.

I would suggest that you contact a woodworking/carpenter type of specialist and see what suggestions they may have for assistance. Therefore to be clear, your claim is denied. Any further comments or questions should be directed to me directly and no one else in the company.

Dear Shirley,

Needless to say, I'm disappointed with your response. Rest assured, I will be returning both pairs for a full refund. I will also be telling every person that has bought one of your products about this incident and your response.

There was absolutely no disclaimer on the packaging that by placing the item on a wood surface, it may be damaged by your product. Your justification for not following through with my claim is a joke. Are you suggesting that once a person buys this product, they are to immediately place them on their shoes and never take them off? In reality, I'd guess that 100% of the people that buy this product need to take them off their shoes at some point and place them some where. It's too bad that there are getting to be so many companies out there like yours that don't "fess up" to problems when they are brought to their attention as in this case. It's sadly poor customer service. I will simply spend my money with companies that stand behind their products and who also "follow up" when problems are brought to their attention.

Good luck to your company in the future as you'll never get a penny from me for any of your products from this day forward.

I love this great movie. It's really good. It's about two sisters named Rose and Maggie Feller. Rose is a lawyer who is kind of plump and has a bad self-image though she is mature and reponisble. Maggie is a beautiful and fun party girl who is outgoing and loves hanging out with men who find her iressible. Maggie calls Rose to come pick her up at her 10 year high school reunion one night. Rose does, only to find Maggie drunk and wearing her shoes. Maggie loves to borrow them since she can't really afford any nice heels herself. She takes Maggie home with her, and Maggie lives with her a while. My favorite part of this is when Maggie puts milk in ice cream and then eats it. That looks so good. I want to try to make that myself and eat that. It looks delicious. Maggie tries on Rose's high heels while Rose is at work. She loves all the nice things her sister has. Maggie tries out for a spot on MTV but doesn't make it since she can't read the words and it goes too fast. One night after a fight Rose tells Maggie that she has to move out. Maggie is angry so she sleeps with her sister's boyfriend and this causes Rose to be really angry. She calls Maggie stupid and Maggie yells that Rose is a fat pig. Then Maggie leaves and goes off to Florida where their grandmother lives in a senior center, a grandmother netheir Maggie or Rose ever knew about. Maggie meets her grandmother Ella (played by Shirley McLaine) for the first time and lives at the old folks home working there and helping an old man by reading to him. The old man, a former school teacher helps Maggie learn how to read. Maggie gets smarter and bonds with her grandmother who has secrets of her own about Maggie's dead mother. Rose meanwhile is dating a guy from work and falling in love with him. She even is planning on marrying him. She finds out about the grandmother through birthday cards Ella sent them as children and Ella who wants to know her other granddaughter sends Rose a letter. Rose flies to Florida only to discover her sister is living there too. All three bond over a dark past, one in which their mother who was mentally ill took them out one day when they were kids and it was a good day. Rose a got a Nancy Drew book and Maggie got a dog named Honey Bun and they both got out of school and ate wonderful chocolate baked by their beautiful mother. But it was also sad because the school called their father and he found out they weren't there. When they return home from shopping, their father and mother fight and he tells her he's going to put her away. Their mother says she's a good mother. Rose hears all this, but Maggie doesn't since she's in her room listening to music. Their mother leaves angry and drives her car into a tree, killing herself. Rose remembers this very clearly from that day, even though her father remarried to a horrible wicked stepmother who makes Rose's and Maggie's lives hell. Maggie never knew this until her sister tells her that she was trying to protect her from it. Maggie understands, and forgives her sister. Likewise, Rose forgives Maggie for sleeping with her boyfriend. They both make up and start over. Rose married the guy and Maggie reads a beautiful poem at her wedding. Then Rose takes off to a new life and Maggie greets her farewell. I love this movie. It's cool. And it's funny and sweet and cute and touching and good. I love Toni Collette as Rose. I loved her in "Evening" and "Little Miss Sunshine" but in this she's really awesome. And Cameron Diaz, who I loved in "The Invisible Circus," is really good as Maggie. She's a beautiful blonde actress who is sexy and has such chrisma. It's a great flick for a girl's night in. All girls can see this movie and get something out of it. It's about sisters, family and secrets from the past can change who we are today. I love this film. I love the book, too. Even though it's long, it's still worth reading though it's a little different then the movie. See this movie or buy it. It's worth the money. It's about relationships and family.

So this movie is based on the Jennifer Weiner novel of the same novel. I gotta say the movie is pretty great, I'd say even better than the novel which I've also read. Customer Review: Children of Heaven Puts a Face on Iran.

I experienced this film for a second time at the Denver Film Festival this weekend with the director in attendance. Shot in Tehran, critically-acclaimed Iranian screenwriter-director Majid Majidi's 1998 film, Children of Heaven (Bacheha-ye Aseman), tells the simple, delightful story of a boy (Ali) who, after accidentally losing his sister Zahra's shoes, must share his own sneakers with her. Fearing punishment, the siblings then decide to keep their plight a secret from their parents and teachers, knowing their parents have no money to buy Zahra a replacement pair. This leads to a series of adventures for Ali and Zahra. Meanwhile, as Zahra envies the shoes a schoolmate is wearing, Ali enters a foot race, desperately hoping to win his sister a new pair of sneakers. In many ways, Majidi's film is reminiscient of Vittorio de Sica's 1948 Bicycle Thieves. Worth noting, the film was the first Iranian film to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. It should have won.

Children of Heaven is a rare experience in cinema. It is permeated with beauty and innocence, which is exactly what makes it such a truly pleasurable experience. In his genuine portrayal as Ali, Mohammad Amir Naji draws the viewer into his predicament. Children of Heaven is ultimately not only a heartfelt love story between brother and sister, but between father and son as well. This is the kind of simple children's film that the Hollywood studios would never make, a movie industry which prefers blockbusters inflated with special effects instead.

I purchased this product to better organize my closet space. I wear a size 7 shoe which I feel is pretty average size. Unfortunately most of my dress shoes slip through the bars and I have to put all of those shoes on the bottom rack. This is quite the opposite of what I would have hoped for. Considering this, I do regret the purchase. Otherwise, if you have a lot of tennis shoes and other casual shoes it may work just fine.

I bought this shoe rack because it's expandable and that's what I needed. I'm not incredibly impressed with the overall design, but it was easy and quick to put together. My biggest problem with it is that it doesn't do a good job supporting my shoes since it just provides two steel pipes to put the shoes, which doesn't work with high heels. On top of that, I have a fairly small shoe size and even some of the wedged shoes don't stay on it because the pipes are too far apart and my shoes fall right through. I would say it's best suited for men's shoes, which are all flat and big in length.

Accidents Happen, made me shout, "What an accident! What a funny twist on something that shouldn't happen!" It's about a sweet lonely Italian maid, with peachy skin, reddish peach hair, a cute peachy uniform. This mild episode is good to watch alone, as it could get a woman thinking, "What if I were in her position, in another's house? Would I go through their things, and would I enjoy it? Would I get caught, would it backfire?" After trying to get it on with the pool boy, yes, everything does backfire, in an intriguing way I wish upon no decent person. A light humorous touch is woven throughout. Towards the end, her room and the lighting in it is also very peachy, in a luminous, romantic way. Zalman King can be great where detailed visuals of romantic lighting, settings, style of lustful portrayal are concerned. There really isn't much else to say, you just have to watch it, because of the "accident" surprise.

Auto Erotica was... awful, a waste, a bit disturbing. But some of us who have so many inexplicable fears can relate to this episode. This pretty lady who is engaged - always expected calmness and perfect balance from - has many fears. However, she does love to drive fast, to lose herself. That last part, I can relate to, and see what it sexually has to do with the Red Shoe Diaries. Come on, fast cars, all that speed, danger, adrenaline rush, your way? It's a rejuvenating turn on. As she drives fast in her red sports car, a harsh looking man (not too bad, but I sure didn't like him) drives fast alongside her in his own blue sports car. They race, he scares her nearly to death twice, yelling some good directions as well. They get to know eachother just from their speeding and screaming through the air. That was cool. Very freeing and educational for the lady, which was just his intent. The sexual black & white shots, plus the innocent childhood shots, in between were mostly unattractive or unnecessary. The lady keeps asking the camera, "Was it real, or did I make him up?" If you don't understand that repiticious, annoying question, what she means is, should she and others like her decide to ignore when someone helps to free them of their burdens and fears? The answer is always No. Help is a Blessing.

Last, but NOT least, the unforgettable Jake's Story, one of the best episodes in this series, and out of any series in general, had my body and mind humming with a blend of excitement, ache, bliss and even peace. A fine blend so few, like the artistically sensual Mr. Zalman King, could deliver... to me... with such precision... such abandon... such passion. Oh, the passion! Lord have mercy. David Duchovny... wow, he was incredible, so rough, in the one scene I never forgot of Red Shoe Diaries. I'm watching the series again after a decade, and just saw this episode five times in one week, leaving me speechless and breathless every time. This episode begins with Jake (David Duchovny) in a coffee shop early in the morning, with the sweet seductive sounds typically expected from George S. Clinton playing throughout. And in walks Kate (Sheryl Lee), the maturely-pretty short-haired blonde trying to pick him up, in a uniquely bold way. She has more than a mere crush on him. Scary? No, it turned out to be bittersweet. After trying to blow her off, he falls for her cool charm, and who wouldn't, which ignites major passion... The passion that man is capable of displaying on screen blew me away, had me squealing loudly with delight, rewinding over and over again, staring, fantasizing, grinning ear to ear. I'm rarely affected this bad, which only shows his worth. The curiosity, the heat, the tenderness flowed with ease and grace from one steamy scene to the next. It was beautiful, at every moment. It moved me, and eventually my friend. It was thrilling to see an episode dedicated to Jake, since it's never been about him, though he especially needs loving. Near the start was something great. Kate shows him how she is a photographer of sensual couple displays. Now that was a terrific private scene, boldly expressed. The whole episode was so wonderful, so reviting. It actually surpassed my high expectations. Asides from Jake's Story, I know of another episode that shouldn't be missed by anyone. It's titled The Cake. It was delicious, fun, funny and memorable.

This video is a keeper, even if only for Jake's Story. I will never tire of it, look forward to further abusing it, then getting it on Unrated DVD if possible.

What I'll always say about the director:

Zalman King knows best how the brain is our greatest aphrodisiac. He stimulates the brain, not only through pushing fantasies to come to life on the screen, but by creating some very beautiful images, scenes, moments. And the music? Why, it's the lazy sexy music that draws me in long before the plot is clear. It relaxes me, gets me in the mood, makes me all receptive to the natural high of hot romance. If you are imaginative, desirous, a sensualist, passionate for passion with a compassionate flair, struck with the incurable burden of romanticism in overdrive, there are some things you should get, and a nice portion of Zalman King's works are one of those things.

Once Upon A Mattress (1959 Original Broadway Cast)

Based on Hans Christian Andersen's tale The Princess and the Pea, Once Upon a Mattress opened in May 1959 and was a solid success, if not a huge blockbuster. It did well enough, in any case, to warrant a 1997 revival starring Sarah Jessica Parker. The show was far from revolutionary, but it provided a really fun vehicle for a cast of top stage personalities, including black actress Jane White, who played Queen Aggravain (a part originally written for comedienne Nancy Walker) in whiteface. But of course, Once Upon a Mattress's heart and soul was Carol Burnett, who, in her Broadway debut created the part of Princess Winnifred and delivered two of Mary Rodgers's best songs, the hilarious "Shy" and the spunky "Happily Ever After," which sounds a bit like Jule Styne at his most rhythmic. Burnett's timing and performance remain as sharp as they were 40 years ago. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Customer Review: Delightful fantasy

Later in her career, Carol Burnett turned to loud humor based on family conflict, and I lost my taste for her. However, this is early Carol Burnett and displays her at her best. I would also add that she did an excellent turn as the queen in the recent television version of this musical.

There is a wonderful line in the play, just after Winifred's appearance climbing over the wall, that establishes her character, even before "I'm Shy." She looks at the crowd and exclaims, "I swam the moat." My remembrance of the Burnett television showing was that she gave an emphasis to the line. Both the Ullman telecast and the one community theater presentation I have seen threw the line away, and the point is largely missed. I thought I recalled the emphasis on this recording, but the line is not included.

As good as Burnett is here, she is not the only show. The story is playful, the music carries the plot, the rest of the cast are all beautiful in their roles. This recording preserves an important part of musical comedy history.

This is an absolute must have. Any true Elvis fan will want his definitive collections and this is one of three box sets that encompass the bulk of his material, this being the 1970's tracks. If you have perfect feet, bet these would be great...however.....most of us don't. I have some misshaped /hammer type toes (due to narrow shoes purchased when younger), and it's almost impossible to get the outside two toes into the forms. Perhaps this will get better with time, but if you have toes that aren't straight....might be dicey.

However, I really bought these because I wanted to stretch the other three (medial) toes, which do fit into the forms, and I think they will work well for this purpose.

(Can't say anything about the 'yoga' aspects about these- I just knew that the foam forms used for pedicures were insufficient, and I needed something more substantive.)

Specifically: I had joint replacement surgery on the ball of my foot (big toe), and it's resulted in crowding between the big toe and 'first toe', resulting in the formation of a corn on the sole of the foot (due to the lateral compression between the toes combined with normal vertical weight bearing in that area of my foot).

The forms do successfully stretch the space between these toes, and my foot does feel better- after ~ 2-3 uses. I paid <$7 for these at Walmart, so it does pay to shop around.

Takehome: Shop around for best price, be realistic about these (if you don't have perfect feet, don't expect them to fit perfectly), but they might be a useful, inexpensive tool to increase flexibility for the foot and toes.

Update- Applying a SMALL amount of lotion really helps to encourage stubborn toes into the forms. (not too much else they'll be too slippery and won't hold traction)

I've used these consistently for ~ 1 week, and honestly believe that they're saving me a trip to the podiatrist & have headed off the formation of a nasty corn in a bad location (ball of foot between great toe and nearest lateral toe). Best of all, my feet don't hurt as much, and seem to be improving with time.

System is not letting me increase the star rating, but I'd give them 5 stars at this point.

I purchased two sets of Yaxtrax, one for work and one for home. The set for work lasted two weeks before breaking a cable. I haven't checked into customer service yet, but I don't think this product stands up to hard use (as in 10 hours/day for 3 to 4 continuous days).

However, the set for home use works great for running around in the ice and snow on a recreational basis.

Overall I think that Yaxtrax are a good idea that can get better with product R and D.

A wonderful product. I live in northern Ohio near Lake Erie, and we get a good bit of freezing rain, or very slick surfaces to walk on. I have a golden retriver who needs a couple of hours of walking each day, no mater what the conditions. The Yaktax provide good traction and help me avoid falls (since I am 64 yrs old I don't bounce as well as I used to).

The only problem with the product is that they seem to have a relative short life -- walking as I do about 5 to 6 miles per day, some on ice and some on bare surfaces. I admit I am hard on them and they really work but it seems I get about 1 mo use of of each pair.

Customer Review: A very good slipper for folks with otherwise cold feet

The bulk of what I would say has already been said by others. I like the thick(er) combination of footpad and sole on these slippers. They insulate my feet from the cold floors in my house better than anything else I've tried. And while my feet are now warmer, I haven't noticed any problem with them sweating ... perhaps the wool material is more porous?

I have no real complaints at the moment with the Shuf ... other than that they are slippers. I dislike the loose fit that slippers typically have because of their low back design. That said, the Shuf seems to stay on better than others I've tried in the past. This seems to be a consequence of the thicker footpad and I don't know if it will last as the material is compressed and stretched with age. But at the moment I'm quite happey with how they are working.

One final trivia note. I have no idea why the Shuf has those 3 indentations on the sole. They make no sense to me. I went so far as to send an email asking about it, but was only told this is "part of the (fashion) design" of the slipper. Give me a break! What is "fashionable" about a weird layout for the sole of the slipper? I almost didn't buy these simply because those indentations on the sole seemed so strange to me.

Now that I've actually tried these slippers I know that the indentations don't interfere with the comfort or utility of the slipper. But I still don't know what to make of them. Oh, well.

I am thrilled with these - It is great to see eco-friendly products that meet (exceed) the non-eco competition for a change. Very comfortable- though I wear these around indoors only, I am thinking about a second pair eventually to wear outside, or at least at our office. Very comfortable.

I am usually a size 14 shoe (running, street shoes) but have found I fit a 13 better in sandles, so that is what I got these in. I probably could have been a little better with size 14 length-wise, but unfortunately I also have a narrow foot, and the size 13's are a little wider than I'd usually want (so I imagine 14 would be wider still). Please remember though- I have weird, un-proportionally long & narrow feet that don't reflect most of the population with larger feet (this is a regular issue for me), so don't let that deter you unless you share in odd feet :)

Customer Review: Jobo PhotoGPS Finally Released

I have been waiting for this device for the last 2 years since it was announced at PMA 07.

In the meantime, I tried 3 other GPS taggers. None were satisfactory. I received shipment of mine last week from B&H. It was worth the wait.

There is only a second or two lag time for the GPS to fire. Sometimes it took as much as 15 minutes for other GPS devices to cold start a location.

The process is straightforward. Mount the PhotoGPS on the hotshoe. Take pictures. Download photos. Open the PhotoGPS software. Connect the GPS device via USB. Download data from the GPS. Load the photos into the software. Automatically tag the photos. Raw photos are saved to .XMP sidecar and JPEGs are written directly to the File. Tag accuracy is good. Accuracy is stated as w/in 50 meters. I tested the files in downtown Manhattan last week and the accuracy was usually much better -- dead-on in a large majority of the cases. Edits can be made to the tags.

I use Adobe Lightroom to download my photos. Thus, I have to remember to have Lightroom Read the Metadata from the files to update the Lightroom data and Longitude, Latitude, Altitude, Location, City, State, and Country data are all automatically tagged. Lightroom allows one to see the GPS data on a Google Map by clicking on the coordinates. Any retagging can be done with a free Lightroom plug-in (Geoencode) by jeffrey Freidl. I found 2 minor problems:

1. The device fits loosely in the hotshoe of both my Canon EOS D40 and my Canon G10. I solved the problem by putting some glue on the side rims outside the slider and let it dry. This gives the hotshoe connector a bit of grab, so the GPS device no longer slips off.

2. The internal flash is not triggered when the flash is utilized, so the GPS device must be removed in order to use the internal flash. If you take a picture before or after removing the device, the software will interpolate the gps coordinates. Also there is a GeoHint button to help assist tagging when inside or when the device is off.

I would give the Jobo PhtoGPS a "5" rating if one did not have to remove the device to use the flash.

Customer Review: Overhyped

I have to say this is probably the most overhyped game ever released and in no way did it live up to the hype generated before its release, which only made things worse.

Sure, the graphics are good and it has a lot of features. The problem is that the developers of this game neglected the most important aspect of gaming - GAMEPLAY. Let's face it, the game has great graphics but it's not fun to play. It's way to linear and the fighting and shooting system is very poorly designed with unnecessary features. If a game doesn't have good gameplay, then graphics, features, special effects and all that other nonsense means squat. It doesn't matter how realistic it looks or how many moves you can do, if the game is not fun to play then it's not worth buying. Even if a game's graphics look almost the same as real life, I would rather play an old 8-bit NES game if the new game has no gameplay and isn't fun to play.

It seems the developers of this game just hopped on the "let's spend 5 years on the graphics and features and completely neglect the gameplay" bandwagon that so many other developers are following nowadays. It didn't seem like they were trying to make a good game, it seemed more like they were trying to impress people with all the features and graphics and just create a lot of hype to deceive people into going out and buying a useless manufactured game. They wasted way too much time with unnecessary features instead of spending it on actually making the game bearable to play.

I remember off the Matrix DVD (I can't remember which one) in the features it had a preview of the making of the game and there was this woman bragging about how "This game is like no other, each character has over 300 individual moves, it has fighting, it has shooting, it has driving" or some cr*p like that (this is partly what I mean about hype).

1) What's the point of each character having "over 300 individual moves" if all you need to do to get through the game is a normal punch and kick? Normally, the purpose of special moves is to make it easier or quicker to defeat the enemy. However, in this game, just using normal moves is just as efficient as using special ones due to the poor design of the fighting system. I did many special moves during the game and I saw no benefit in doing them. In fact I found it easier just using normal punches and kicks or just pressing random buttons to get through the game and lost even less health using this method. Now why would a player remember the combinations to do all these special moves if there is no incentive to do them? So basically, all those hours that the developers spent on programming all these 300 moves amounts to nothing since the player is not even going to use 90% of them throughout the whole game. This game would have gotten a much higher rating if all those hours were spent on more simple and fundamental aspects of the game.

2) The driving is terrible. It's not what they hyped it up to be. There is rarely driving in the game and when there is it's pretty average and arcade style. I don't feel that I have to write much more on this aspect as most people who have played the game will agree. If you want good driving, then buy Gran Turismo or NFS.

3) Don't even get me started on the shooting. This has to be the absolute WORST aspect of the game and probably the worst shooting engine in any game for that matter. This aspect completely put me off the game. If it wasn't for this then I probably would have actually bothered to beat it. I mean, for Christ's sake, WHERE'S THE CROSSHAIR??? The default mode is 3rd person and you don't even have a crosshair to aim with (and it's not even an option). HOW THE HELL ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO AIM? It's simply way too hard to aim at someone in 3rd person without a crosshair. Sure, they have an "auto-aim" feature when you shoot in the enemy's general direction, that is, if your idea of auto-aim is bullets going 5 meters off target in random directions. I mean, I'm sitting there trying to shoot a simple guard, trying to aim in his general direction without the aid of a crosshair, emptying clips of bullets that just fly off in random directions anywhere apart from the enemy, the bullets looking like something off a playstation game. The only way to get a crosshair on the bloody screen is going into 1st person mode. Sure, that sounds alright. I mean, I'll just go into 1st person mode every time I see an enemy. But guess what? You can't even move in 1st person mode, which just makes it impossible to avoid being shot. And you know what else? For some unknown reason the developers decided to make the mouse around 50x more sensitive in 1st person mode than it is in 3rd person. Way to encourage people to aim. And you can't even change the sensitivity for 1st person mode alone so it will always be around 50x more sensitive than in 3rd person mode. And when you change it so that you can actually aim at someone in less than 1 minute in 1st person mode, it becomes so un-sensitive in 3rd person mode that it takes around 10 movements of the mouse across the mouse pad just to do a 360. In the end, it just gets to the point where it's easier to just run up to someone and kung-fu them. Due to its fundamental flaws, this aspect of the game ends up as useless as the "300 moves" I mentioned earlier. Once again, there is no incentive to use this aspect of the game. Why would someone sit there for 1 minute, emptying 5 clips of bullets just to kill a few enemies, when he/she could just run up to them and kung-fu them and kill them even quicker and with even less loss of health. Personally, I can't understand why the developers would spend so much time on designing 300 moves that the player is not even going to use and not even making an effort to fix the fundamental aspects of the game. I mean, surely the developers could have spent a couple of hours placing a simple crosshair on the screen, adjusting the mouse sensitivity and actually programming the bullets to hit their targets.

Overall, it seems that the developers tried to mix a few different genres of gaming but got none of them right. Also the gaming is way too linear. I mean, I've played plenty of linear games and enjoyed them (eg. Medal of Honor series) but this game takes it to a whole new level and just becomes plain boring. The whole game is pretty much based on running through and area, killing all the guards in it and going through a door to the next area. There is hardly any variation to this. No finding keys/items, no exploring areas, no secrets, just the same old linear path with fighting the same old enemies.

So in conclusion, the developers spend a lot of time on unnecessary features and graphics but this was not enough to save the game as it is fundamentally flawed in the crucial area of gameplay. The game mixes a wide range of gaming genres but fails to succeed in any of them, once again, due to poor gameplay. If the developers spent a little less time on ridiculously unnecessary features and a little more on the crucial area of gameplay this could have very well been a solid release. Unfortunately, it just became another poor movie-adaptation to add to the ever growing list.

I've used one of these for three years now with excellent results for hiking boots, Nordic ski boots, athletic shoes and rubber/leather pacs. Although the heat level is very modest - and therefore protects your footwear and keeps the electric bill low - it will thoroughly dry all but the very soggiest boots in a few hours. Also, it seems to eliminate any foul odors (who me?) in athletic or street shoes.

Here's a hot tip: put your already-dry winter boots on this Peet dryer before venturing out on a frigid morning and your feet will be truly toasty!

I've seen much fancier boot dryers and I see even Peet now makes a fancier version. And this product seems a bit pricy for something so simple that has no moving parts. But I'm not tempted to get anything else because this simple model is foolproof and "gits `er done."

I got these hangers to put in a baby doll wardrobe. The hook on them is so small I had to "jam" them on the rod.

Good news is that the clothes fit on each hanger fine and with my daughter not able to remove them from the wardrobe herself there will be no chance of hangers left on the floor.

This arm band fits well with the 4th gen ipod nano. The side velcro sleeve is a great option for the adjustment of excess wires from your headset. The ipod sensor case for the shoe laces is a great option. The sleeve allows you to choose other shoes to use with your ipod, not just Nike shoes. Nike makes a great shoe, but in my opinion there are much better running shoes out there like New Balance.

The only negative aspect for the arm band is that the adjustment needs more length. I have the band streched out as far as it will go and my biceps are average for someone who works out.

I picked this unit up for less than advertised on amazon.com a few hours ago. Like some reviews stated, one doesn't necessarily need the Nike+ shoes, but considering I need a new pair of running shoes, I might as well grab a pair from my local Nike store. The unit works well with iPod Nano and iPod touch. I thought at first that it wasn't compatible with touch, but not only does it work with my touch(32GbSecGen), it doesn't need the receiver. I have owned this product for a few months now. It was incredibly easy to use. I have Saucany running shoes, not Nike. I was able to just insert the sensor underneath the tounge of my shoe without buying the 3rd party pouch. I bought the pre-wash and the spray on waterproofing, since the wash-in waterproofing would waterproof the inside, which wasn't needed. With the spray I could get it on the outer shell where I wanted it. I followed the instructions, first wash the garment then spray and let dry. Then I wore it in the rain a few weeks later. I got soaked. It actually made it worse than before. I wish I had just left it alone. I've used the inexpensive spray-on products that work better than this product. Save your money.

Customer Review: A delightful film from a beloved book

This is a delightful film. The book was written in the 1930's, but its expression of young girls' hopes and dreams is timeless. The film is true to the book, with a few bizarre exceptions--what on earth was going on with Nana's hair, and where did the romance and all that smoking come from, and why? However, these anomalies are easily overlooked because the rest of the film really captures the look and feel of the book--the way I always pictured it in my mind. I only wish it could have been longer, so that we could have seen more of the story. Much of the casting is perfect--particularly Pauline, Gum, and Winifred. Emma Watson is the perfect Pauline! I highly recommend this movie for anyone over age 8 or 9, and hope that it sparks a resurgence of interest in all of Noel Streatfeild's "Shoes" books. Her stories embodied the concept of "girl power" long before the phrase was coined. Another "Shoes" film would be nice too--maybe someone will make Movie Shoes into a film. It would appeal to both boys and girls. One can only hope!

Oh my gosh, could this movie be any cuter? I don't mean that in a sickeningly sweet way. This movie is just a good story about women trying to make it on their own after the war in London. The Fossil sisters were all foundlings of a collector of all things paleontology. They grew up in a big old grand London house alongside trilobites and T Rex until those treasures had to go to make room for the growing girls.

Petrova wants to be like Amy Johnson when she grows up. I think Amy Johnson must've been the British Amelia Earhart. Posy was found with only a pair of pink toe shoes when she was a baby, her mother having been a young ballerina who had neither resources nor time to care for her child. And the oldest is a stage natural. These three girls live a life filled with love and possibility, if not one of materialism. Still, their needs are always met and the girls receive great educations and theatre training. IN fact, everything in this movie seems to be blessed and appointed by Providence. Every time they have a need, it's magically filled by strangers literally at the door. And in the end, everyone has a happy ending.

I highly recommend the Ballet Shoes.

Christmas Shoes is one of the most moving stories of a modern Christmas. I am so moved by it that I bought the movie to watch every year. This year our church choir did a production of the play. I went to see another production of the same play, watched the movie with some friends, read the book, and read the other two books in the series about the little boy in the first book. That is how much the story means to me. It really helps us remember how we should put the people in our lives ahead of things, and jobs.

Customer Review: What Price Art? The Red Shoes Show the Price in Unapologetic Splendor

One could find a lot to ridicule about this ripe 1948 melodrama since there are plenty of excessively theatrical moments trumpeting the more dramatic passages. However, the film's enduring appeal comes down to the cinematic artistry of the Archers, co-directors and co-screenwriters Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, the British dynamic duo who had just released another classic, 1947's Black Narcissus. Visually, it's a stunning piece full of vibrant, stylized colors that fit the florid contours of the story adapted from the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. There is an audaciously surrealism that courses through the film, but the Archers don't lose sight of the love story at its core. Ballet enthusiasts have sung this film's praises for over six decades now, but there is much more to appreciate here.

After showing a horde of youngsters flooding the balcony of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden for a ballet performance, the filmmakers settle their story on Victoria "Vicky" Page, an aspiring prima ballerina who comes from a wealthy London family and catches the attention of impresario Boris Lermontov. When his star dancer Irina Boronskaja decides to get married, Lermontov concludes she has forsaken her art and gives Vicky a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in the company's newest ballet, a fantasy piece based on Andersen's "The Red Shoes". Under Lermontov's unyielding tutelage, she learns the role of a young girl cursed to dance herself to death in a magical pair of red slippers. At the same time, prodigiously talented composer Julian Quentin, another of Lermontov's protégés, is completing the score for the ballet and unsurprisingly falls in love with Vicky. Despite the success of the ballet at its premiere in Monte Carlo, Lermontov forces Vicky to decide between her career and her pending marriage to Julian. The mounting pressure of the decision overwhelms Vicky and forces her to face unforeseen consequences.

All of 21 when she was cast, Moira Shearer is ideal as Vicky, as she is not only a striking, flame-haired beauty but an accomplished ballerina and an affecting actress. Despite a flood of offers after the film's release, she never made as significant an impression in her career, and the film itself would not be nearly as magnetic without her presence. She is showcased brilliantly in the mesmerizing fifteen-minute ballet sequence that is said to have inspired Gene Kelly to produce his magnificent ballet piece in An American in Paris. "The Red Shoes" ballet is boldly imaginative in its expressionistic visuals and the dream-like state in which Shearer dances to Brian Easdale's majestic score and Robert Helpmann's dramatic choreography. Pulling at Vicki in opposite directions, the two male leads perform admirably within the confines of their stereotypical roles - Marius Goring as the brilliant yet petulant Julian and especially Anton Walbrook who does a Barrymore-level turn as the tyrannical, smitten Lermontov (take note of the fastidious brocade robe he wears in an early morning scene). Major credit also needs to go to cinematographer Jack Cardiff, who did similarly impressive work in Black Narcissus and later became a director himself (Sons & Lovers).

As expected, the 1999 Criterion Collection DVD is a gem and a great tribute to the production. Actor Jeremy Irons reads excerpts from Powell and Pressburger's 1978 novelization of "The Red Shoes" and the original Andersen fairy tale. There are also slides of ardent fan Martin Scorsese's collection of "Red Shoes" memorabilia; publicity and behind-the-scenes production stills; and film clips and stills from the Archers' illustrious filmography. Particularly fascinating is "The Red Shoes Sketches", an animated film of Hein Heckroth's painted storyboards set to "The Red Shoes" ballet. The commentary track is the best feature even if it is a bit of hodgepodge with clips of audio interviews with Cardiff, Shearer, Goring, composer Brian Tisdale, and Scorsese. British film historian Ian Christie leads an entertaining discussion of the movie's development and production with Shearer surprisingly candid about the challenges in making the film. The original theatrical trailer rounds out the extras.

Customer Review: Both Beautiful and Trivial

A great many people--including Martin Scosese--have stated that seeing THE RED SHOES fueled their desire for a career in the arts, and over the years the film has acquired quasi-legendary status as an intellectually profound, emotionally stirring motion picture that investigates the deep personal sacrifices a career in the arts requires. But while I found the film visually stunning and interesting in concept, I also found it simplistic in its statements on the nature of art and nothing short of trivial melodrama in terms of plot.

Very loosely based on the goings-on in the famous Serge Diaghilev ballet company, the film concerns a rising dancer (Moira Shearer) and rising composer (Marius Goring) who fall under the spell of an inflexible impressario (Anton Walbrook), who leads them to create a new ballet: The Red Shoes, based on the famous Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale. The ballet turns both dancer and composer into stars--but so far as the impressario is concerned art leaves no room for human affection, and when the dancer falls in love with the composer professional and personal tragedy is the result.

THE RED SHOES is particularly famous for its portrait of backstage life and the fifteen-minute "Ballet of the Red Shoes" sequence, which was the first of its kind in a major motion picture. Moira Shearer, who was a major dancer at the time of the film, is more of a dancer than an actor, but she carries the demands of the script very well. The remaining cast, however, overplays shamelessly, and when combined with the trivial plot and equally trivial script--well, let's just say that the whole thing acquires a slightly ripe quality and it is difficult to feel a great deal of interest in the characters or their personal difficulties.

Even so, THE RED SHOES is nothing short of visually stunning. It is easily among the finest Technicolor films made, and the attention to design detail is elegant, beautiful, and imaginative. Although certain camera techniques have dated poorly, the "Ballet of the Red Shoes" is indeed worthy of its fame, and Shearer is exceptionally attractive in her screen debut. The Criterion DVD presents the film in near-pristine condition with a truly memorable audio commentary. Recommmended, but don't expect too much in terms of depth.

Although considered a classic today, Little Feat's 1971 debut had failed to sell up to expectations and, for that, the band found themselves on thin ice at Warner Brothers. Turning to another red-hot WB staff producer in Ted Templeman (Doobie Brothers, Van Halen, Van Morrison), they were able to further hone Lowell George's bent and surreal writing and elevate Bill Payne and Richie Hayward's contributions into more hook-laden tunes, while maintaining the unique rock, blues and country blend that defined the quartet. Showing authority, confidence and indeed, major cojones (including a re-arranged Willin', a song from their first album, on their follow-up!), 1972's Sailin' Shoes firmly established Feat as a major force in pop music. The Flying Burrito Brothers' #1 Sneaky Pete, perfectly seasons both Willin' and Texas Rose Cafe with his steel guitar licks while ex-Beau Brummels member (remember them?) Ron Elliott adds rhythm guitar to A Apolitical Blues.

I am so heartened to see so many five-star reviews here! Oh, yeah, Sailin' Shoes is a wonderful record--pure pleasure, really. Think Rubber Soul, the Replacements' Hootenanny, Beck's Odelay--Sailin' Shoes is electric (and acoustic), eclectic, eccentric and oh so alive. Not totally ready for primetime (that's Dixie Chicken), but all the better for it. I hate people telling me the plot details of a movie, so I'll just say--how many records are funny, surrealistic, totally rockin', AND lovable? Check it out!

Customer Review: I got Cat Fever

Overlooked and underappreciated, Little Feat gained popularity during their day but never had got the airplay or found the audience of other bands producing similar music at the same time. "Sailing Shoes" is a potent mix of the band's bluesy sound highlighted by Lowell George's distinctive slide playing (George was aided on their debut by Ry Cooder when Lowell badly injured his hand which altered his playing style giving us the familair sound that highlight so many later albums). The songwriting is top notch here improving on their already strong debut. Lowell George came into his own as a vocalist here and although that strong Dixieland blues/jazz influence isn't as prominent here, you can hear it lurking in the background more so than the band's strong debut.

Still playing as a four piece with George handling the bulk of the guitar work(Paul Barrere would join full time on the next album after being asked to audition as a bass player even though he was a guitar player and really wasn't all that interested in playing bass)assisted by the late, great Sneaky Pete Kleinow and Ron Elliot on three tracks of the album.

Keyboardist and co-founder Bill Payne contributes three strong songs--"Cat Fever", "Got No Shadow" and "Tripe Face Boogie" written with drummer Richie Hayward. "Willin'" (which reportedly had something to do with Zappa dismissing George from his band. Zappa told him he needed to go off and found his own band. The other reason reportedly was Zappa's "no drugs" policy which George would have rebelled against)makes another appearence in its definitive version while a couple of tracks originally written for George's previous band The Factory also show up.

"A Political Blues" one of George's most popular songs shows up here as well. "Easy to Slip" and "Texas Rose Cafe" (both of which George and the band did demos for The Doobie Brothers when Ted Templeman was looking for additional material for the band)also appear and both are terrific songs that bookend the album.

The reissued Mobile Fidelity Labs Gold Disc sounds extremely good. It comes in a gatefold sleeve replica of the original album packaging along with a booklet. As to which sounds better the MFSL version or Lee Herschberg's original CD mastering, it's a matter of taste. Both sound quite good and if you can't get one, the other will do just fine.

This is by far Kenny Chesney's best cd to date. And since I am reviewing this cd 6 years after it was released, I make the aforementioned statement with 100% confidence. This cd has become the anthem to my life. Veteran Christian band Newsong decided to include the sentimental ballad, "Christmas Shoes," as a bonus track on 2000's Sheltering Tree, unaware that the almost O. Henry-esque tale about a young boy attempting to buy a pair of shoes as a Christmas present for his dying mother would blow up into a massive hit. So overwhelming was the response to that song (it landed atop Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart) that the group decided to fashion an entire holiday album around it, naturally titling it Christmas Shoes. In addition to the heart-wrenching title track, the contemporary Christian rockers serve up some beautifully arranged versions of cherished favorites such as "Away in the Manger/God Rest Ye, Merry Gentleman," "The First Noel," and "What Child Is This," as well as an impish, rather histrionic version of "You're a Mean One, Mr.Grinch" which should tickle the underage set. Newsong have also written a number of well-crafted, infectious holiday songs that don't bludgeon you with heavy-handed inspirational messages, but instead shine brightly with the true spirit of the holiday. --Jaan Uhelszki

My husband works at a plant nursery and it stays wet and muddy. I bought him weatherproof leather boots but they started to not hold out the water after about 3 months so I got this product and used it as directed. It held up for one month. Based on the use it was put through - it worked ok but if you are looking for something heavy duty then you may want to look for something stronger than this. It would work well on light to moderate use. I've put it on my leather swede shoes and it works great for that.
